ETPrep is a study app for Ethiopian high-school students preparing for class tests and Matric, the Grade 12 National Exam. It is made by Kraft Dynamics ("we"). This policy explains what ETPrep collects, why, who else receives it, and how to delete it. If anything is unclear, write to etprep@kraftdynamics.com.
In short
- You can use ETPrep without an account. We never ask for your age, ID or exact location.
- Your study activity (which questions you answered and how) is sent to our server so we can back it up and improve the questions. It is linked to a random ID for your phone, or to your email if you sign in.
- ETPrep shows ads from Google AdMob. We ask for non-personalized, family-friendly ads.
- We do not sell your data.
- You can delete your progress in the app, and your whole account by email or from our account deletion page.
1. What we collect
When you use the app without an account
- A random phone ID. The first time ETPrep connects, our server gives your phone a random ID. It is not your phone number or your device's hardware ID.
- Your study profile. Your grade, your stream (grades 11–12), your goal, the subjects you chose, how each subject feels to you (hard, OK or strong), your study plan settings, and your school if you enter it. All except grade and goal are optional.
- Your study activity. For each answer: the question, the option you chose, whether it was right, how long you took, whether you used a hint and how sure you felt. Also your study sessions, exam results, readiness estimates, the study notes you open, the badges you earn, and whether you opened a study reminder.
- Question reports. When you report a question, the reason you picked.
- Technical data. Your app version and whether your phone runs Android or iOS. Like every website, our server also sees your IP address when your phone connects.
If you sign in
- Your email address, used to send you a sign-in code and to link your progress across phones.
- Your name, if you entered one in the app.
If you buy an Exam pass outside the app stores
Exam passes are sold by bank transfer in the version of ETPrep we distribute directly. To check a payment we keep the bank, amount, transaction reference, the screenshot you attach, and which phone sent it (so one phone can't unlock passes for many accounts). The app store versions of ETPrep do not sell passes.
If you invite friends, or join with an invite
Your account has an invite code. When a friend signs in and enters it, we record that you invited them. To decide whether the invite counts, we look at which days your friend studied in their first 14 days, and we check that you did not both use the same phone. You see your friend's name, if they entered one, and how many of their 3 study days they have done. You never see their answers or results. Your friend sees your name, if you entered one.
If a company sponsors your pass
A company or organisation can pay for Exam passes for a group of students. The sponsor receives reports with group figures only: how many sponsored students studied, how much, and how their readiness changed. Groups of fewer than 10 students get totals only. A sponsor never sees one student's answers, results or contact details.
What stays on your phone
Your phone number, target score and any email you type into Settings without signing in stay on your phone. Study reminders are scheduled by your phone; we do not send push notifications. ETPrep only opens your photos when you choose a payment screenshot.
2. Our website
The ETPrep website (etprep.io) uses no cookies, no ads and no analytics, and its fonts come from our own server. If you send a sponsorship request, we keep what you type in the form (company, name, work email, phone, number of students, your role and your message) and email it to our team so we can reply. We use it only to answer you and arrange a sponsorship.
3. Ads (Google AdMob)
ETPrep shows ads after some study sessions and in practice exams, and a short video ad when you choose to watch one for an extra bite. The ads come from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google collects data from your phone, such as its advertising ID, IP address (which gives an approximate location), the ads you see and tap, and app diagnostics. We tell Google to show non-personalized ads only, to treat users as under the age of consent, and to limit ads to content rated PG. Google's use of this data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. An Exam pass removes ads.
4. Fonts in the app
ETPrep may download its two typefaces from Google Fonts the first time it opens. Google receives your IP address when this happens, and does not receive anything about your studies.
5. How we use the data
- To run the app: back up your progress, restore it when you sign in on another phone, and unlock an Exam pass you paid for.
- To improve ETPrep: find questions with wrong answer keys, unclear wording or missing figures, and see which chapters students find hardest.
- To report on learning in groups (for example "grade 12 students in the natural stream"). We only publish group figures when a group has at least 10 students, and at least 20 for a school. We never publish anything about one student.
- To send sign-in codes. We do not send marketing email.
6. Who receives it
- Our hosting provider (Hostinger), whose servers in the United Kingdom store our database.
- Our email provider, to deliver sign-in codes.
- Google AdMob, as described in section 3.
- Your sponsor, if a company paid for your pass: group figures only, as described above.
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
Only the ETPrep team can open the admin tools, and they are protected by sign-in.
7. Where your data is stored
Our server is in the United Kingdom. Data sent from Ethiopia or elsewhere is transferred there over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). We handle personal data in line with applicable law, including Ethiopia's Personal Data Protection Proclamation No. 1321/2024.
8. How long we keep it
- Study activity and your profile: until you delete them, or until we delete inactive data we no longer need.
- Sign-in codes: 10 minutes.
- Payment records: as long as we need them for accounting and the law.
- Sponsorship requests: as long as we are discussing or running the sponsorship.
- Server logs: a short period, to keep the service running and secure.
9. Deleting your data
- In the app: Settings → Delete my profile and progress deletes your study activity from our server and everything ETPrep stored on your phone.
- Your whole account: see our account deletion page, or email etprep@kraftdynamics.com from the address you signed in with.
You can also ask us for a copy of your data or to correct it.
10. Children and teenagers
ETPrep is made for students in grades 9 to 12, usually aged 13 to 20. It is not meant for children under 13. We collect as little as possible, never ask for age, and ask for family-friendly, non-personalized ads. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
11. Security
All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted. Passwords are not used: sign-in uses one-time codes. Exam passes are digitally signed so they cannot be forged.
12. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. For important changes we will also tell you in the app.
